PHYSICAL RADIO

BRAND NEW STUDIO ON THE GOLD COAST

Originally based in Melbourne, Physical Radio is a division of the Barbecue Records group created in 2013 by the international DJ & producer EDDISON (Universal Music France, Pacha group, Marriott group) and Faustine Pinto (Tourism, management and Entertainment specialist).
In June 2021 the radio opened a new studio located near Budds Beach at Arise Ruby Building, a trendy pocket of Surfers Paradise (Goldcoast) central to the numerous nightlife benefits of the area. Ambitious and next-gen oriented, the radio station enjoys luxury features like a video interview area, a live DJ set area, a music production room, a gallery, a poolside area, and more.
Physical Radio teamed up with prestigious brands to offer the best experience to the audience by using high-end tools in a classy and trendy atmosphere.
With Brisbane hosting the Olympic Games in 2032 and the Gold Coast becoming an Olympic village, they have the opportunity to develop and showcase a panel of ideas and concepts through the next decade and highlight them to the world.
While the global pandemic has delayed the launch of some of the studio features or interstate collaborations, Physical Radio already shows a unique image where dynamism and modernity are the colours of its essence.

THE GALLERY

The first thing that you see when you enter the radio studio is the gallery with some of the most notable artists the station has worked with and damn! you're directly into it, some serious stuff is happening here! We like the diversity of it, from Techno legend like Carl Craig to House icon like Armand Van Helden, Trap phenomenon like Rezz or Electro sensation like Tokimonsta, Physical Radio collaborates with the best and covers all kinds of Electronic music. At the end of the gallery, you have two spaces, on your left is the sound production room and on your right is the main room. Let start with the main room, shall we?

THE MAIN ROOM

What's eye-catching when you first enter the room is this massive PC, central to everything, full of colours and beautiful like a piece of art. The body, the cooling system and the power supply are from Cooler Master, the screen monitor, the motherboard and the graphic card from Aorus and Gigabyte, the SSD and the external hard drive are from Seagate and LaCie, the stream deck and the video capture hardware are from Elgato, the processor from AMD, while the headphone and microphone are from PreSonus. This powerful PC allows them to produce any content, from live stream to video editing or music broadcasting, it is multi-tasking and ready for hard work at any time.
All this is sublimated by the DJ set up next to it, a fantastic high-end pair of Audio-Technica turntables connected to a Pioneer flagship controller linked to an Alto mixer. The sound is beautifully distributed by four PreSonus speakers spread throughout the room for an immersive effect.
What's also impressive when you're there, are the two red hand-armchairs which are here for the video interviews, interviews recorded with a wireless microphone system by Samson. On one side of the video interview area, you have a photocall with all Physical Radio's partners, on the other side, you have the administrative desk with two stunning speakers by Edifier and a massive carbon-looking ThunderX3 gaming chair.
Everything is next-gen oriented, this makes you think about the perfect studio for a YouTuber where colours and design are here to delight your eyes.
The main room also has a small kitchen and a bar (not finished yet) where team members and guests can come either for brainstorming or to chill after a show, whether inside, or outside to enjoy the sun on the balcony. And man, what a view! A breathtaking 180º view on the Nerang River where you can enjoy the sunset every single day of the year.

THE SOUND PRODUCTION ROOM

Well, it's time to come back to the sound production room, the team uses it to produce ads, jingles and more for the radio, but also with the Barbecue Records artists if needed to produce their tracks.
The marvellous black speakers with handcrafted yellow ribbon twitters are from Adam Audio, the keyboard and the Ableton controller from Akai Professional, the audio interface from IK Multimedia and the headphone from Audio-Technica. What's eye-catching here is the sE Electronics microphone with its tube condenser and portable acoustic treatment device. What a beauty!

AND ACTION!

To shoot their content they have two Sony A7C, two GoPros coming soon, a DJI Osmo 3 and a panel of tripods.
They also use an Elgato green screen for some of their Youtube videos which allows them to create another atmosphere if needed.

When we asked EDDISON if the radio studio was completed, he said that 80% was done but that they are still waiting for some gears as well as some decorations:
"We have a precise vision of what we want and what we need. With the current pandemic, it has been quite problematic to find the right gear on time, at the right price, or even just to collaborate with the people we want. Some are interstate and with the lockdowns, we need to wait before having them over in the studio. We also mostly work remotely with the team members as some of them are in Sydney or Melbourne at the moment. Hopefully, everything will end soon so we can bring this to the quality level we want to."

Let's definitely keep an eye on it then, you can find all the references of their gears on the dedicated page here.

You can follow Physical Radio on Youtube and Twitch for their upcoming video content, on their socials for the daily news and of course, you can listen to the station through the Android and Ios apps.
